Remembrance day

Preparation for Entry to the Army students joined Sergeant Cairns and Lance Corporal Tait from Army Careers, Galashiels in selling poppies in the towns of Galashiels and Hawick prior to Remembrance Day and although given a large stock of poppies the students sold all their poppies with a two hour period!Remembrance day

Whilst staff and students from the Construction & Engineering sections and Care & Access Faculty were invited to attend a short presentation explaining the significance of the poppy and in particular the involvement of the Kings Own Scottish Borderers platoon during the First World War.

In Galashiels over fifty students and twelve members of staff watched a short film and afterwards listened to Iain Scott describing the battle of Gallipoli, where a huge number of KOSB soldiers lost their lives. Two minutes silence was held at the end of Iain’s talk.

The presentation was respectively received by all who attended and a similar presentation was equally well observed by all students at the Hawick campus.
